To go along with our exploration of early YA novels this week in ENG 438, you might enjoy YA author David Lubar’s very short humorous piece on The History of Young Adult Novels in which angst and double initials reign supreme.
For a more serious look at the genre’s history, read librarian Gretchen Kolderup’s excellent post, The History of YA Lit for Adults Reading YA.
Kolderup has another article about YA lit that I also think you should read: Are You Reading YA Lit? You Should Be. It isn’t about the history of YA lit, but it’s an important piece and also recommends a lot of great books you might want to read for the independent reading portion of this class.
